Maurice Nadeau's internment at the upper Stratton, Maine cemetary Linda's collection
This is the Maurice that I remember Linda's collection Quick sketches I'm sure that Felix remembers Maurice more than I do since Maurice boarded at Raymond's in Stratton while getting his start in the world. Maurice had a little barber shop and I enjoyed going there to have my hair cut. I was very impressed with his hoby of tying fishing flies in his spare time. He gave them out to customers. I can't say that I knew him well but he had a very nice way with children and talked with them--not just to them. I don't know if he was drafted or enlisted in the army during the Korean Conflict. He died in England while in the military following a poker game. He had been hit on the head with a shovel and his body thrown into a river after being divested of his money. I remember the sadness and pain shown by all at the funeral in Stratton. He was the youngest of the boys and probably a favorite to all. I felt especially sad because I had no momento of him until a recent gift from Felix and Marcel of some of Maurice's barbering tools. I use the shaving brush to clean the inside of this computer. I think Maurice would have liked the thought that his brush was being used this way. The manual clippers are not used but always in the bathroom. I think of Maurice often--his impact on me was positive, although not profound. Richard Nadeau Maurice and I were very close. We had 3 years difference. I always like him a lot -- never remenbered having an argument with him. After my mother died we stayed on the farm for a while, dad wanted him to try it out, but Maurice didn't like it, so he decided to go to Montreal to a barber school. After he got his diploma he went to Stratton and stayed at Raymond and Ida 's and was a barber for while in Stratton. I dont know how long after ,he came to stay with us in Portland Maine, and he had a job as a barber. About 9 months later he joined the service for 3 years, and when his time was over he sign up again. Tol this day I never forgot him he was a very nice person. Claudine
